Overview
A responsive cricket score platform. Live scores update without a refresh, and every match has its own page with a full scorecard. Coverage is deliberately narrow: matches between ICC Full Member nations, plus India's own competitions such as the IPL, WPL and domestic cricket.
The problem
Free score providers are tightly limited: the main source allows 100 calls a day, the scorecard source 200 a month, and providers keep only recent matches. The site had to feel live for every visitor within those limits, and keep working when a provider is down.
The solution
The ASP.NET Core API reads the provider and pushes updates to every open page over Server-Sent Events, so visitors never call the provider themselves. A full scorecard is fetched only when a reader asks for it, and cached once the match ends.
Finished matches are stored in PostgreSQL, so results stay available after the provider's short window. When a provider is down, the site serves the last data it stored and labels how old it is.
Key features
- Live scores that update in place over Server-Sent Events
- Home, Live, Matches, Series and Teams sections, one tap away on mobile
- Match pages with batting and bowling cards, fall of wickets and partnerships
- A results archive that keeps finished matches past the provider's short window
- Search across matches, teams and series
- Serves the last stored data, labelled with its age, when a provider is down
- Installable as an app, with the last loaded scores readable offline
- Match link previews on WhatsApp, X and Slack with the teams, scores and result
- Light and dark themes
Technical decisions
The API follows Clean Architecture (Api, Application, Domain and Infrastructure) on .NET 10, with EF Core on PostgreSQL (Neon) in production and SQLite locally. The frontend uses React 19, Vite, Tailwind CSS, TanStack Query and Zustand.
Ball-by-ball commentary was left out on purpose: following one match would use the whole monthly allowance in minutes. Everything runs on free plans, with the frontend on Vercel, the API on Render and the archive on Neon.
Our contribution
Designed and built end to end as a personal project: the frontend, the API, the data model, CI and deployment.
